Please review the following guidelines to help prepare students for the field trip:

  • Remind students that Waikalua Loko is a special place. It is important that they understand that they
    are visitors to the area.
  • Students should try to mälama (care for) and höÿihi (respect) this wahi (place) by throwing rubbish in designated garbage bags and by treating all kumu with respect.
  • Volunteer kumu will be facilitating each hui (group). Please remind students to give their full attention so each student can receive the full benefit of this outdoor experience.
  • Go over the agenda before the field trip.

  • Optional: Your students may wish to share a song, an oli (chant) or a dance that they have learned over the course of the year. The volunteer staff encourages school groups to share this special gift.
